Applying his background in life sciences and experience with complex regulatory topics, Miguel joined Philip Morris International (PMI) in 2005 to act on his passion to help organizations improve their social and environmental impact. As sustainability director, Miguel’s current focus is on establishing PMI as a global leader in sustainability by supporting the implementation of world-class programs in all the countries where the company operates.
Prior to his tenure at PMI, Miguel was an assistant professor at the University of Coimbra in Portugal and served for a term as an elected member of the Portuguese parliament. He holds a Ph.D. in phytochemistry and pharmacognosy.
