Anwar is a petroleum expert with 27 years of industry experience. Anwar has BSc from the University of Bristol in Physics (1993, UK), PhD from the University of London (Imperial College London, Royal School of Mines) in Petroleum Engineering (2007, UK), and an executive MBA specializing in European Studies with focus on Economic, Legal and Diplomatic Studies, from the Szent István University, Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences (Hungary).

Anwar started his career in petroleum engineering in PDO in Oman in 1993. In 2001, Anwar moved on to commence his international career working for Shell International in the Netherlands. In 2007, Anwar joined an American consulting firm as the Middle East Division regional manager, and serving the Middle Eastern petroleum clients. In 2009, Anwar joined Oman Oil Company SAOC to support the new establishment of the Upstream subsidiary. In 2015, Anwar was seconded to the Ministry of Oil and Gas, leading special projects. In 2017, Anwar was seconded to MOL Group in Budapest. Anwar strengthened his executive and leadership role by serving in MOL Group Board for 5 years (2014 to 2019).
